Jansons erected a 166′ x 10′ ID dual-wall, guyed steel stack at the congested Seattle Steam Station, located in Seattle’s waterfront district, adjacent to the popular tourist attraction, the Seattle Farris Wheel. This unique ‘remove and replace’ project included many challanges in addition working at an extremely congested site. A few of these included:
The existing roof-mounted stack was severely corroded; which necessitated taking special precautions prior to and during dismantling operation
Obtaining necessary building permits for the crane and closure of an adjacent parking lot
The stack was dismantled is sections using multiple cranes, including a 450-ton hydraulic crane with a 105′ radius
Sections were lowered to an adjacent parking lot and immediately removed from site for salvage
Due to the complicated arrangement of flues entering the stack immediately below the roof elevation, the original stack base and anchor bolts were rehabed and the replacement stack was erected on the existing base
